Congenital Heart Atlas

from the Cardiac Nomenclature Society

An atlas developed by the International Society for Nomenclature of Paediatric & Congenital Heart Disease, illustrating and defining the key set of terms from the International Paediatric and Congenital Cardiac Code (IPCCC) and the 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11).

The International Society for Nomenclature of Paediatric and Congenital Heart Disease (ISNPCHD) or the “Cardiac Nomenclature Society” was constituted in 2005 with a mission to unify the classification of congenital cardiac disease within a single terminology scheme.

Since inception, the Society has worked with meticulous care to create definitions that are applicable around the globe, and to cross-link these definitions across multiple coding systems.

The ISNPCHD has provided to the World Health Organization (WHO) the key set of congenital cardiac terms and definitions that now populates the Foundation Terms of the 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11).

In addition to providing the ISNPCHD’s select list of terms and definitions, this atlas aims to accurately illustrate ICD-11 Foundation Terms for congenital heart disease by providing high quality, peer-reviewed images from anatomic specimens, illustrations, echocardiograms, cardiac magnetic resonance scans, computer tomography scans and other imaging modalities.

The structure of the Congenital Heart Atlas is based on the IPCCC terms included in the World Health Organization’s ICD-11 Foundation.

Once logged into the Atlas, to find information and related images for any term, simply click within the hierarchical tree of terms or use the [SEARCH] button.

The lesions in the Atlas are organized in ICD-11 structure. Within these major group headings are detailed, illustrative images for each of the 300+ individual terms:
