Why a Congenital Heart Atlas?

The IPCCC ICD-11 Congenital Heart Atlas has been independently developed by the Cardiac Nomenclature Society to enhance the understanding of terms within its lexicon of congenital heart disease (the IPCCC).

The Atlas content is freely available for download and reproduction for non-commercial learning and teaching. As such, the Atlas is an invaluable tool to facilitate the acquisition and spread of knowledge in the field of congenital heart disease.

The Cardiac Nomenclature Society gratefully recognizes the contribution of dozens of congenital heart experts around the world, and the support of multiple organizations (see Contributors and Acknowledgment sections) without whom the Atlas could not have been produced.

Dr. Maude Abbott (1869–1940)

Atlas Dedication

The development of classification schemes specific to congenital heart malformations began with Dr. Maude Abbott’s pioneering work in Montreal, Canada, in the early 1900’s at McGill University. This work culminated in the publication of her famous Atlas of Congenital Cardiac Disease in 1936. Inspired by her lifelong dedication to the field, the International Society for Nomenclature of Paediatric and Congenital Heart Disease is dedicating this virtual Atlas to the memory of Dr Maude Abbott (1869–1940).
